“Le Conce” or the tanneries, one of the most important tannery factory in Sardinia, date back to the 18 century. They were built, by the local builders, on the left side bank of the river Temo, outside the town in order to avoid the unpleasant smells of tanning process and to allow workers to get to work easily. They were in the past a series of two floors buildings in a row.
On the ground floor there were the presses and on the first floor there was an office and the finishing machines.
The Cone valuable leather products were sold not only in Sardinia but in Genoa and France. In 1962 the last tannery was closed.
In 1989 the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and activities declared the “Conce” a national monument.
Today “Le Conce” are still alive and they seem a unique two floors building , reflecting on the water of the Temo and you can admire them, take photos and remember the past.

Le Conce oli yksi tärkeimmistä nahkatehtaista 1700- luvun Sardiniassa. Se rakennettiin paikallisten rakentajien toimesta Temo-joen vasemmalle puolelle, kaupungin ulkopuolelle, jotta nahan valmistusprosessista aiheutuvat epämiellyttävät hajut voitaisiin välttää keskustassa. Tehdas muodostui useammasta kaksikerroksisesta rakennuksesta. Pohjakerroksessa olivat prässit ja toisessa kerroksessa olivat toimisto ja nahan viimeistelylaitteet.
Arvokasta nahkaa myytiin Sardinian lisäksi myös Genovassa ja Ranskassa. Viimeinen nahkatehdas suljettin vuonna 1962. Vuonna 1989, Italian kulttuuriperinnön ministeriö nimesi museon kansallismonumentiksi.
Tänäpäivänä “Le Conce” -tehtaan henki elää yhä museon muodossa: kaksikerroksinen uniikki rakennus, Temo-joen varrella ja on ehdottomasti historiallisesti merkittävä ja vierailun arvoinen kohde.
